So yes, here I am again and it has been quite some time since I have updated this blog. First and foremost, to explain the events that have lead to my absence, shortly after finishing production of "The Blind Side," which by the way will be premiering November 20th, 2009, the new road band was put into place and hit the ground running very very hard. There has been no time to stop for a second as we are making preparations for the upcoming show lineup that will be starting in October. On a side…

Well, guess what, it has been several months since we last saw Andy in the office for an official Invisalign visit and we have not heard a peep out of him about his treatment. That is good! Invisalign as a technique has almost no emergency issues. We don't get loose brackets, wires poking the cheeks and tongue or soreness like braces. The forces are gentle and gradual. The appliances are removable so eating is without issue. Teeth are cleaned easily with the Aligners out so there is far less gum…

So, I know I said I would write in here every week, but I guess I didn't anticipate the increase in my schedule for the summer. lol.. What a busy one it has been so far. Everything from continuing to move forward with new songs and recording to even filming a feature film have kept me going like the energizer bunny. All the while, the gap in my teeth is slowly starting to close together. I am on tray 7 now, but I am starting to see some real results from the treatment, especially in the upper se…

Tomorrow Andy comes in for his first time after receiving his aligners six weeks ago. Every six weeks or so the Invisalign patient comes in for 3 new aligners. We check the progress of the previous appliances and fit the new ones...takes only one minute, usually. Some visits we may need to do IPR-Interproximal Reduction- if the teeth are too tight and won't slide over. This only occurs in tight, crowded cases, not spaced cases like Andy's.
Should we take a photo to see how Andy's space is closi…

So, week 2 is done and done for my treatment, and with week #2 comes... (drumroll please...) NEW TRAYS!! So, I got to switch my Invialigns to a new set yesterday. I'm not gonna lie, I was kinda looking forward to it. I mean, every tray I change is one more step closer to the results that I am looking to achieve. Every 2 weeks I take the new set out of the custom packaging and place my old ones in their respectable container. Speaking of which, I have 2 of those, one blue, one red. The blue one g…

One week ago today, I stepped into the office of Dr. Williams to begin not only a physically transforming practice, but also a life transforming procedure. The "Velo Project," as it was dubbed, began many months back with Dr. Williams inviting me to be a part of this very special partnership. A project that is designed not only going to give me that healthy and confident smile that always seemed so out of reach, but furthermore would turn the overall health of my smile completely around. The typ…

Andy has all four of his wisdom teeth, or third molars as dentist's call them, impacted under the bone and locked from coming is normally. There just is no room for them in Andy's mouth (you really thought he had a very big mouth didn't you!) as is the case in most people we see. Impacted wisdom teeth (named that because they come in (sometimes) at the age of "Wisdom"...when one generally graduates from high school, as education is completed for many, especially in the centuries past when wisdom…

Adding to the complexity of Andy's case is the presence of an impacted canine or cuspid tooth in the upper left side side of his mouth, just under his eye. That is why they call it the "eye tooth" because it grows right up under the eye and usually erupts into place at around 10-11 years old...except in Andy's case, it didn't. While we plan to use Invisalign to correct the majority of the dental malocclusion, spacing, and crowding in the lower teeth, we may need some orthodontic brackets to atta…

The space between the front teeth is called a diastema by dentists. This space has been the bane of some people's existence and the beauty trademark of others. Do you have a diastema? If so, you probably have an opinion as to its benefit to your looks. In the Velo Project, we will explore the treatment for a severe diastema among other things that Andy did not like about his smile. Since Andy is a budding country rock music star, he wanted his "on-stage presence" to be more ideal, thus the plann…
